Which Vaccine Is Being Given in Schools Now (October–November 2025 Campaign)

Which Vaccine Is Being Given in Schools Now (October–November 2025 Campaign)

In October 2025, the Government of Bangladesh launched a nationwide vaccination campaign for children and adolescents. As part of this program, Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) is now being administered in schools across the country. Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection caused by Salmonella typhi, commonly spread through contaminated food and water. It remains one of the most common infectious diseases in tropical countries like Bangladesh, especially during the summer and monsoon seasons.

Campaign Schedule:

The vaccination drive is being conducted in two main phases:

  • Phase 1: October 12 to October 30, 2025 — in schools, madrasas, and English-medium institutions.

  • Phase 2: November 1 to November 13, 2025 — in community clinics, ward-based EPI centers, and outreach sites.

Each eligible child will receive a single dose of the vaccine during this period.

Who Will Receive the Vaccine:

All children aged 9 months to below 15 years are eligible to receive the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV).

  • School-going children will get vaccinated at their respective schools.

  • Out-of-school or absent children can get the vaccine from their nearest EPI center or community clinic.

Vaccination at schools usually takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 About the Vaccine:

The Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) provides long-term protection against typhoid fever.
Key features include:

  • It requires only a single dose.

  • It can be given from 9 months of age.

  • It provides protection for up to 5 years or more.

  • Side effects are minimal, such as mild fever or slight swelling at the injection site.

Why Vaccination Is Conducted in Schools:

Schools are ideal centers for immunization because they bring together large groups of children in one place. Vaccinating at schools allows the government to reach millions of children efficiently and conveniently. It also helps parents, as they do not have to take their children separately to hospitals or clinics.

Government’s Objective:

This campaign is jointly supported by the Government of Bangladesh, the World Health Organization (WHO), and UNICEF. The main objectives are:

  • To reduce the prevalence of typhoid fever across the country,

  • To lower child mortality rates,

  • To ensure long-term health protection for all children.

Post-Vaccination Care:

After receiving the vaccine, parents and guardians should follow a few simple precautions:

  1. Keep the injection site dry for 24 hours.

  2. Give paracetamol if mild fever or pain develops.

  3. Report any unusual reactions to nearby health workers or doctors.

Conclusion:

The nationwide school-based Typhoid Conjugate Vaccination campaign is a major step forward in Bangladesh’s public health initiative. By protecting children from a dangerous yet preventable disease, the campaign contributes to a healthier future generation. Every parent, teacher, and student should take part in this effort and encourage others to do the same — because vaccination not only protects an individual child but also safeguards the entire community.

Best Cancer Treatments(ক্যান্সারের সেরা চিকিৎসা)

 Best Cancer Treatments: –
A Comprehensive Guide Introduction Cancer is a disease in which body cells grow uncontrollably. It is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. While the type and stage of cancer determine the treatment plan, modern medicine offers several effective options. In this blog, we discuss the best cancer treatment methods available today, along with their benefits and limitations.

 1. Surgery Surgery is one of the oldest and most effective cancer treatments. In the early stages of cancer, removing the tumor or affected organ can often lead to complete recovery. Examples: Lumpectomy or mastectomy for breast cancer, partial colon removal for colon cancer. Advantages: Highly effective in early-stage cancers Limitations: Recovery time may be long; some side effects possible .

2. Chemotherapy Chemotherapy uses drugs to destroy cancer cells. It is particularly useful for cancers that have spread throughout the body. Advantages: Can treat multiple types of cancers Side effects: Nausea, fatigue, hair loss, increased risk of infections.

  3. Radiotherapy Radiotherapy uses high-energy radiation to destroy cancer cells. Mostly used for localized cancers. Examples: Breast, brain, or throat cancers Side effects: Skin redness, fatigue; recovery for normal tissues may take time.

  4. Immunotherapy Immunotherapy strengthens the body’s own immune system to fight cancer cells. Examples: PD-1 inhibitors, CAR-T cell therapy Effective for certain cancers like lymphoma and melanoma Advantage: Targeted approach, less damage to normal cells .

5. Targeted Therapy Targeted therapy involves drugs that specifically attack cancer genes or proteins. Example: HER2-positive breast cancer treated with Trastuzumab Advantage: Usually fewer side effects than traditional chemotherapy .

6. Stem Cell Transplant Mostly used for leukemia or lymphoma Helps restore damaged bone marrow Can reduce the chances of cancer recurrence in many cases .

7. Clinical Trials and New Therapies For advanced or rare cancers, experimental drugs and therapies are used in clinical trials. Leading cancer institutes worldwide provide this option. Key Principles for Effective Treatment Early Detection: The sooner cancer is detected, the better the chances of successful treatment. Multidisciplinary Approach: Combining surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and targeted therapy Patient Health and Stage: Age, comorbidities, and lifestyle are considered Expert Consultation: Oncologists, surgical oncologists, and radiation specialists guide treatment .

 Conclusion:-
It is difficult to declare a single “best” cancer treatment, as it depends on the type and stage of the disease. However, combined therapy and early detection significantly improve survival rates. Modern medicine combines surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy, and continuous research has led to innovative treatments, giving hope to millions of patients worldwide.

(Surgery):

(Chemotherapy):

(Radiotherapy):

(Immunotherapy):

(Targeted Therapy):

(Stem Cell Transplant):

Oncologist, Surgical Oncologist, Radiation Oncologist

Natural Remedies for Postmenopausal Syndrome

Natural Remedies for Postmenopausal Syndrome:

Introduction Menopause is a natural transition in a woman’s life that usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, when  menstrual cycles permanently stop. After menopause, the levels of two important hormones — estrogen and progesterone — significantly decline. This hormonal change can lead to a collection of physical and emotional symptoms known as Postmenopausal Syndrome. Common symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, sleep disturbances, fatigue, and joint pain. Fortunately, many of these discomforts can be eased naturally without depending entirely on medication. Below are some effective natural tips and lifestyle changes that help women stay healthy and balanced after menopause.

  1. Maintain a Balanced Diet Your diet plays a major role in keeping your body strong and hormones balanced. Soy-based foods (Tofu, Soy milk, Soybeans): These contain phytoestrogens — plant compounds that mimic estrogen and help reduce hot flashes. Fresh fruits and vegetables: Foods like broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, oranges, and apples are rich in antioxidants that reduce inflammation and improve overall health. Calcium and Vitamin D: Essential for strong bones. Include milk, eggs, tuna, and exposure to sunlight in your routine. Limit sugar, salt, and caffeine: Too much coffee or sweets can trigger hot flashes and disturb sleep. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to fight fatigue, dryness, and maintain skin elasticity.

    2. Exercise Regularly Regular physical activity helps stabilize hormone levels and reduces several menopausal symptoms. Go for light exercises like walking, yoga, or swimming at least 30 minutes a day. Exercise improves mood, strengthens bones, enhances sleep, and helps control body weight. Consistency is key — make it a daily habit instead of intense, irregular workouts.

    3. Get Enough Sleep Sleep disturbances are one of the most common complaints during menopause. Aim for 7–8 hours of quality sleep every night. Keep your bedroom cool to reduce hot flashes. Avoid caffeine and heavy meals before bedtime. Try reading or deep breathing before sleep instead of using your phone or TV.

   4. Use Herbal and Natural Supplements Certain herbal remedies have shown positive effects on menopausal symptoms, but always consult a healthcare professional before taking them. Black Cohosh: Known to help relieve hot flashes and night sweats. Flaxseed (Linseed): Rich in lignans, a type of phytoestrogen that supports hormonal balance. Red Clover: Another natural source of phytoestrogens that may reduce hot flashes. Omega-3 fatty acids: Found in fish oil, it helps improve mood, reduce inflammation, and support heart health.

    5. Maintain Mental and Emotional Well-being Hormonal changes can affect mood and emotional stability. Practice meditation, prayer, or breathing exercises to calm your mind. Spend time with family and friends — social interaction helps reduce loneliness and depression. Engage in activities that bring you joy — gardening, reading, music, or painting. If anxiety or depression feels overwhelming, don’t hesitate to seek counseling support.

    6. Take Care of Skin and Hair Postmenopausal women often notice dry skin and hair thinning due to reduced estrogen levels. Use natural oils like coconut or olive oil to keep your skin and hair moisturized. Avoid harsh chemical-based beauty products. Eat foods rich in omega-3, vitamin E, and antioxidants for glowing skin.

    7. Stay Alert and Check Your Health Regularly Postmenopause is also a time to pay extra attention to your long-term health. Go for routine check-ups — bone density, blood pressure, and cholesterol. Report any unusual bleeding, chest pain, or extreme fatigue to your doctor immediately. Don’t take herbal supplements or hormone therapy without proper medical guidance.

Conclusion : Postmenopause is not an illness — it’s a new and natural phase of womanhood. By making mindful lifestyle choices, eating nutritious food, staying active, and practicing self-care, you can manage postmenopausal symptoms gracefully and maintain good health for years to come.

(World Breast Cancer Awareness Day)

(World Breast Cancer Awareness Day)

Pancreatitis: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention

Pancreatitis: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention

The pancreas is a vital organ located behind the stomach that plays a critical role in digestion and blood sugar regulation. It produces digestive enzymes to help break down food and hormones like insulin and glucagon to control blood glucose levels.

Pancreatitis is the inflammation of the pancreas, which occurs when digestive enzymes start attacking the pancreas itself instead of aiding digestion. This condition can range from mild to life-threatening and, if left untreated, can lead to serious complications.

Types of Pancreatitis:

Pancreatitis is mainly classified into two types:

1. Acute Pancreatitis:

  • Occurs suddenly and lasts for a few days to weeks.

  • With proper treatment, it often resolves completely.

  • In severe cases, it can cause serious health risks or even death.
    Source: NCBI

2. Chronic Pancreatitis:

  • Develops gradually over a long period of time.

  • Repeated inflammation leads to irreversible damage to the pancreas.

  • Can result in permanent digestive problems and diabetes.
    Source: HealthDirect

Causes of Pancreatitis:

Several factors can trigger pancreatitis. The most common causes include:

  • Gallstones:
These block the pancreatic duct, causing enzymes to back up and damage the pancreas.
    Source: NEJM

  • Excessive Alcohol Consumption:
Long-term or heavy drinking is a major cause of chronic pancreatitis.
    Source: Mayo Clinic

  • High Triglycerides (Hypertriglyceridemia):
Very high levels of triglycerides in the blood can trigger acute pancreatitis.
    Source: MDPI

  • High Calcium Levels (Hypercalcemia):
Elevated calcium can lead to the activation of pancreatic enzymes within the pancreas.
    Source: Mayo Clinic

  • Medications:
Certain drugs have been linked to pancreatitis as a side effect.

  • Autoimmune Pancreatitis:
When the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the pancreas.

  • Infections or Trauma:
Injuries to the pancreas or nearby organs.

  • Genetic Factors:
A family history of pancreatitis increases the risk.

Symptoms of Pancreatitis:

The signs and symptoms vary depending on whether it is acute or chronic:

  • Severe upper abdominal pain radiating to the back

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Abdominal tenderness and bloating

  • Fever and rapid heart rate (tachycardia)

  • In chronic pancreatitis:

    • Weight loss

    • Fatty, foul-smelling stools (steatorrhea)

    • Poor absorption of nutrients

    • Diabetes caused by pancreatic damage

If you experience sudden, intense abdominal pain, seek immediate medical attention as it may indicate acute pancreatitis.

Diagnosis of Pancreatitis:

Diagnosing pancreatitis involves a combination of clinical evaluation, laboratory tests, and imaging studies.

1. Medical History and Physical Examination:

Doctors will ask about:

  • Symptoms and pain characteristics

  • Alcohol consumption

  • Past medical or family history

2. Blood Tests:

  • Amylase and Lipase: These enzymes are typically elevated threefold or higher in acute pancreatitis.

  • Lipid profile to check triglyceride levels.

  • Calcium and other metabolic panels.

3. Imaging Tests:

  • Ultrasound: Detects gallstones and pancreatic swelling.

  • CT Scan or MRI: Provides detailed images to identify inflammation, necrosis, or pseudocysts.

4. Severity Assessment:

Doctors use scoring systems to determine whether the condition is mild, moderate, or severe.
Source: AAFP

Treatment of Pancreatitis:

Treatment depends on the type and severity of pancreatitis.

For Acute Pancreatitis:

  • Hospitalization is often required.

  • IV Fluids: To prevent dehydration and maintain blood circulation.

  • Pain Management: Strong painkillers or medications to relieve severe abdominal pain.

  • Nutritional Support:

    • Mild cases: Oral feeding with low-fat meals.

    • Severe cases: Tube feeding (enteral nutrition).

  • Treating the Cause:

    • Gallstone removal surgery (Cholecystectomy).

    • Stopping certain medications if they triggered pancreatitis.

  • Antibiotics: Only if there is an infection or necrosis.

For Chronic Pancreatitis:

  • Lifestyle Changes:

    • Stop alcohol completely.

    • Quit smoking.

  • Dietary Modifications:

    • Low-fat, easily digestible meals.

    • Eat small, frequent meals.

  • Pancreatic Enzyme Supplements:
Helps in proper digestion when the pancreas can’t produce enough enzymes.

  • Insulin Therapy:
If diabetes develops due to pancreatic damage.

  • Surgery or Endoscopic Procedures:
To clear blocked ducts or remove damaged pancreatic tissue.

Complications of Pancreatitis:

Untreated or severe pancreatitis can lead to several serious complications:

  • Necrotizing Pancreatitis: Dead tissue within the pancreas that may become infected.

  • Pancreatic Pseudocyst: Fluid-filled sac forming around the pancreas.

  • Malnutrition: Poor absorption of nutrients due to lack of digestive enzymes.

  • Diabetes: Due to loss of insulin-producing cells.

  • Multiple Organ Failure: In extreme cases, the condition can affect kidneys, lungs, and other organs.

Prevention of Pancreatitis:

Simple lifestyle changes can significantly reduce the risk of pancreatitis:

  • Avoid or limit alcohol consumption.

  • Quit smoking completely.

  • Maintain a healthy, low-fat diet.

  • Manage body weight and prevent obesity.

  • Treat underlying health conditions such as gallstones or high triglycerides.

  • Regular health checkups for early detection of problems.

When to See a Doctor:

Seek urgent medical attention if you notice:

  • Sudden, severe abdominal pain

  • Persistent vomiting

  • Fever with chills

  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)

  • Rapid weight loss or malnutrition symptoms

Conclusion:

Pancreatitis is a potentially serious condition that requires early detection and proper medical care.
While acute pancreatitis may resolve with prompt treatment, chronic pancreatitis can lead to permanent damage and complications like diabetes.
By adopting a healthy lifestyle, avoiding alcohol, and getting regular check-ups, you can significantly lower your risk of developing this painful condition.

Rheumatoid Arthritis-1

Rheumatoid Arthritis: Causes, Symptoms, Treatment, and Prevention:

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that primarily affects the joints but can also impact other parts of the body. Unlike regular arthritis caused by wear and tear, RA occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy joint tissues, leading to inflammation, pain, and joint deformity over time.
This condition can significantly affect a person’s quality of life if not diagnosed and treated early.

In this article, we will explore what rheumatoid arthritis is, its causes, symptoms, treatment options, and preventive measures.

What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the synovium, which is the lining of the membranes surrounding the joints.
As a result, the joints become inflamed, swollen, and painful. Over time, this inflammation can damage cartilage, bones, and even nearby muscles and ligaments.
RA is a systemic disease, meaning it can affect other organs such as the heart, lungs, and eyes.

Causes of Rheumatoid Arthritis:

The exact cause of RA is still unknown, but genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors play a role. Below are some of the common factors associated with RA:

  1. Genetics:
People with a family history of rheumatoid arthritis are at a higher risk of developing the disease.
Certain genes, like HLA-DR4, are linked to RA.

  2. Autoimmune Response:
In RA, the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues, causing joint inflammation.

  3. Hormonal Factors:
RA is more common in women, suggesting that hormones like estrogen may play a role.

  4. Environmental Factors:
Exposure to cigarette smoke, air pollution, or certain infections can trigger RA in genetically predisposed individuals.

  5. Obesity:
Being overweight puts extra stress on joints and can increase inflammation, raising the risk of RA.

Early Signs and Symptoms:

Early detection of RA is crucial for effective management.
Common signs and symptoms include:

  • Joint Pain and Swelling: Typically in smaller joints such as the fingers, wrists, and ankles.

  • Morning Stiffness: Lasting more than 30 minutes after waking up.

  • Warmth and Redness: Inflamed joints often feel warm to the touch.

  • Fatigue: Persistent tiredness and lack of energy.

  • Symmetrical Symptoms: RA usually affects joints on both sides of the body equally.

  • Weight Loss and Fever: In some cases, unexplained weight loss and low-grade fever may occur.

Note: RA symptoms often develop gradually but can also appear suddenly in some individuals.

Stages of Rheumatoid Arthritis:

Rheumatoid Arthritis progresses through four main stages:

  1. Stage 1 – Early Stage:
Mild joint inflammation without significant damage.

  2. Stage 2 – Moderate Stage:
    Inflammation starts to damage cartilage.

  3. Stage 3 – Severe Stage:
Damage extends to bones and surrounding tissues, causing visible joint deformities.

  4. Stage 4 – End Stage:
Joints lose function completely, and severe disability may occur.

Complications of Untreated RA:

If RA is left untreated, it can lead to serious complications, such as:

  • Permanent joint deformity and disability

  • Osteoporosis (weak bones)

  • Cardiovascular diseases

  • Lung problems like scarring and inflammation

  • Eye problems such as dryness and inflammation

  • Increased risk of infections due to a weakened immune system

Diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis:

Doctors use a combination of physical exams, medical history, and lab tests to diagnose RA.
Common tests include:

  • Blood Tests:

    • Rheumatoid Factor (RF)

    • Anti-CCP antibody test

    • Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)

    • C-Reactive Protein (CRP)

  • Imaging Tests:

  • X-rays

    • MRI or ultrasound to check joint damage and inflammation

Early diagnosis is crucial to prevent irreversible joint damage.

Treatment Options:

While there is no permanent cure for RA, treatments aim to reduce inflammation, manage symptoms, and prevent joint damage.
Common treatment methods include:

1. Medications:

  • NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs): Reduce pain and inflammation.

  • Corticosteroids: Provide quick relief from severe inflammation.

  • DMARDs (Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs): Slow the progression of RA.

  • Biologic Agents: Target specific parts of the immune system to control inflammation.

2. Physical Therapy:

  • Regular exercise and stretching help maintain joint flexibility and strength.

  • Occupational therapy helps patients adapt to daily tasks.

3. Lifestyle Changes:

  • Maintaining a healthy weight

  • Eating an anti-inflammatory diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, leafy greens, and whole grains

  • Quitting smoking and avoiding alcohol

4. Surgery:

In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to repair or replace damaged joints.

Prevention and Self-Care Tips:

Although RA cannot always be prevented, certain habits can reduce the risk or slow its progression:

  • Stay Active: Engage in low-impact exercises like swimming or walking.

  • Healthy Diet: Consume anti-inflammatory foods like fish, nuts, and fresh vegetables.

  • Protect Joints: Use assistive devices to reduce strain on joints.

  • Regular Checkups: Early monitoring helps detect flare-ups before they worsen.

  • Stress Management: Practice meditation and yoga to reduce stress, which can trigger RA symptoms.

When to See a Doctor:

Seek medical attention if you experience:

  • Persistent joint pain or swelling

  • Stiffness lasting more than 30 minutes in the morning

  • Sudden unexplained fatigue and fever

  • Symptoms that affect both sides of the body

Early consultation with a rheumatologist can prevent severe complications.

Conclusion:

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a serious autoimmune condition that requires timely diagnosis and management.
While there is no cure, modern treatments can help patients live a healthy, active life.
By following a balanced lifestyle, taking prescribed medications, and attending regular checkups, you can effectively control RA symptoms and prevent long-term joint damage.
